In his 1962 #2 Billboard hit Limbo Rock, Chubby Checker asked the classic "How low can you go?" People are bending over backward to show us.
The limbo is a game/dance with Caribbean roots where you pass under a bar by bending over backward and not touching the ground with anything but your feet. The bar is lowered until there's a winner.
The world record for lowest limbo was under a bar set at 6 inches off the ground by Dennis Walston in 1991. The furthest distance record is held by Shemika Charles-Campbell who limboed nearly 13 feet under trucks in 2020.
How low can you go is a good question. We thought we knew the answer but some people can get a lot lower. Most who can seem to be an oddity called "candidate".
Tim Sheehy, Republican U.S. Senate candidate in Montana, told a room full of donors "The best way to bond with Indians, is to be out there while they're drunk at 8am." Native Americans make up 7% of the Montana population.
Sheehy is Trump's candidate to oust 3 term incumbent Jon Tester. Evidently Tester sucks at limbo, but he's mighty impressed by Sheehy's ability to bend backward under all 7 Montana reservations.
More recently, Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance stood in front of Jesus and TV cameras and suggested the current Vice President "go to hell". This was obviously a ploy to get Trump's endorsement once and for all.
The jury's out whether he scored the endorsement, but no doubt it's the kind of talk that lowers the bar. Six inches looks awful high to a guy who's made more money pretending to be a hillbilly than Jethro Bodean. JD's looking up at it.
I bet Chubby or the guys who wrote Limbo Rock never thought "how low can you go" would be the driving force behind a major political party. The official line dance of the GOP is the limbo.
That's because the party is a wholly owned subsidiary of Trump Enterprises. No bar is too low for that one man show. Sheehy and Vance may be close to the ground but only one guy resets the bar nearly every day in almost every way.
How low can you go? Donald was found guilty and fined for sexual harassment. Donald was found guilty of tax evasion and fraud. As a businessman, he's bankrupted a half dozen companies. The one any fool can buy stock in today has lost 74% of its high trading value in just 6 months.
You've got to get low to do those things, but he can get lower. The man who called veterans "suckers and losers" used a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington as cover to take photos and video in a restricted part of the cemetery. They showed up the next day in a campaign ad. When a military employee tried to enforce the rules and stop them, she was physically attacked.
The U.S. military and Arlington Cemetery officials have stood by the employee, not by the limbo warrior who once occupied the Oval Office.
How low can you go? Lower than a snake's belly if the truth be told.
