Six months in, the Trump administration has more leaks than the Titanic. How long until it sinks?
From the West Wing to the Department of Justice, the legion of doom decry those whose conscience is stronger than their loyalty to the Cheetoh. Threats to any news outlet not named Fox or Breitbart for unnamed sources have intensified, illustrating clearly just what they think of the First Amendment.
The Twit in Chief has been quick to trumpet "fake news" at every item exposing mayhem in the White House or Russian shenanigans. But he's got no problem sharing leaked information that furthers his goals.
On Tuesday, the Donald channeled his best Kim Jong Un sounding exactly like an unhinged dictator instead of the leader of the free world. After threatening fire and brimstone on Pongyang, some news services were compelled to remind Americans that Trump had unchecked power to shoot off the big one any time he wants.
I'm thinking anybody who didn't know that already shouldn't be allowed to vote. Of course, knowingly voting for Trump to have that power doesn't say much for you either.
Recent Titanic research revealed the big ship was basically on fire, from deep in its coal hoppers even before it launched its maiden voyage. That fire inevitably both weakened the ship's structure and caused the crew to pour the coal to the boilers in an attempt to burn away the fire's fuel. That's why it was running full speed through a field of icebergs.
While actual facts are the icebergs of this administration, it's the crazy burning deep within that spell it's doom. Self-destruction is inevitable.
One can only hope the certain self-destruction doesn't take the country along with it. There are no guarantees.
Meanwhile, in the neighborhood, new economic data from the Appalachian Regional Commission has downgraded Pike County into the same Distressed designation as the rest of eastern Kentucky.
Proof again of what a wonderful job Governor Granite is doing. He'll probably suggest a program of prayer meetings and painted rocks to overcome our dilemma. Then he'll continue his effort with Senator Yertle to take down our medical economy.
Shout out to Congressman Rogers for maintaining his stranglehold on most distressed counties of any Appalachian congressional district.
As a writer of grant applications to ARC, I can say this isn't the worst news for the county. The best grant opportunities from ARC are for Distressed counties only. Frankly, that was hard to understand from the view in Elkhorn when we were denied grants for being in the wrong county.
There's one place close by that's not lying around waiting for a miracle. Jenkins, right down the road, has announced an effort to build a resort and casino above the town at Raven Rock. The development would employ 900 people, which is most of the town.
Nevermind that state law and possibly the state constitution would have to be revised. They've got a plan and they're pushing it. You never know, it could happen.
They've got a better chance doing that than Elkhorn City has of going wet. But don't tell anybody I said that.
