The Small Things

small things move about my apartment in the
darkness skittering across the hardwood floor
lying in wait with my city strength
magnum nozzled spray i knocked them off
the wall from ten feet away but not anymore

she screamed when she saw the small thing
on her favorite red beach towel screamed for
me to get my can teach it a lesson but the can
was empty too hot to go for more

her red beach towel is draped over the rocker
i bought at the yardsale and she refinished
the towel is worn she's a long way away

breezes come through at night cooling
the place so i can sleep off the lonely hours

the small things roam freely
