Birthday from Granny

ninety five years' patchwork fingers
slowly stitch fabric scraps saved for

time make cold nights warm both sides
tatted fingers sore and yarn with a

little help from Beulah her daughter my
father's mother geometric patterns color

and textures family unknown to see easy
chair now Granny rocks hands clasped

in lap still darker than gray twenty
three years i've loved her this way

one constant force never to change
fifth generation tugs her shoe now as

Granny smiles
