It's been a while since I threw numbers at you. Five weeks, not that anybody's counting.
By the time you read this, we'll be looking back at 6.4 million confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the United States leading to 190,000 deaths. Counter to the wishful delusions of the conspiracy class, several legitimate sources agree we've undercounted both figures.
In case you were wondering, that's a case increase close to 2 million and death increase of 40,000 over last. Those deaths don't sound that bad to you? Try pretending everyone in Richmond Kentucky died in the last 5 weeks. Would you notice then?
Hundreds of cases and one death are linked directly to the Sturgis motorcycle rally from last month. Thats just so far. The event was identified as a super spreader that might increase overall numbers of positive cases over 200,000.
Across the midwest and south schools are in a start and stop cycle, from large universities to small junior highs. Thousands of positive cases across the country come from isolated locations trying to put students in classrooms. The cycle will continue through the fall.
Some predict a half million United States citizens dead by Christmas from Covid-19. Outside of a miracle vaccine appearing out of the sky next month, cases and deaths will certainly rise as the weather turns from fall to winter. Six months into a pandemic and the only national strategy is pretend it's not there.
It's not all bad, though. The daily new case average nationwide is dropping. Kentucky's positivity rate is under 4% as I write this. Compared to our neighbors, especially Tennessee, Kentucky overall is still keeping breakouts and new case loads under control.
There are a couple of other numbers we can't ignore today that aren't Covid related. Let's take a look at those.
The first one is two. As in two times. As in the number of times you can't vote no matter what Mr. Putin's Puppy suggests. Trump is so desparate to convince the general population you can't trust our elections he went ahead and implored his faithful to go ahead and vote absentee with a followup in person on election day.
How many Trumpets do you think will go to jail? Voting two times is illegal in exactly every state in the union, in case you didn't know. You'd think someone in the Oval Office would know that though.
The second number is not exact, but you'll get the idea. Rounding up a bit makes it 1,355,000. According to 2019 census counts, that's roughly the population of Dallas, Texas. That's a lot of people. But we're not talking about a city.
What we're talking about is an exclusive group from our history.1,355,000 is the number of Americans killed in conflict. That is the number of people who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country. The ones we honor each time the U.S. flag is raised.
Or in the words of Cadet Bonespurs, the number of losers and suckers buried in our national cemetaries.
1,355,000 is the number of memories dishonored with every breath by a career con artist. He doesn't understand honor because he's never known honor.
Numbers don't lie, but they do make up good stories. Remember the numbers when you vote.
