Let's take a look at where we are. I don't know about you, but I'm still hanging out on the neighbor's porch, cussing and discussing our shared situation with Tater.
When I refer to "where we are", I'm talking about the current conditions in our country. We are all in this together, no matter how miles, politcs or beliefs come between us. The simple fact is, and you've heard this before but it bears repeating, the virus doesn't care where you are, who you voted for, or how much you pray.
A quick look at the numbers shows we are truly number one with a bullet, unfortunately it's not a magic bullet.
We're currently over 1.4 million cases of Covid 19, up from 606,000 when I last mentioned statistics 4 weeks ago. We've registered over 83,000 deaths up from 26,000. As you read this, those numbers are well higher.
Talk about numbers to be proud of! We have 5 times more cases than our closest competitor and over 3 times more deaths. Someone is making America great again!
Of course, most folks don't equate greatness with leading the world in sickness and death, but America's death cult sure does.
Before we identify the death cult, let's talk about some blame. There's no one to blame that there is a world-wide pandemic and the disease has reached our shores. History is full of pandemics wiping out humans around the world. It is as natural as an earthquake or a hundred year flood.
But, the question remains, how on earth can the richest, most technologically advanced country on the planet be so crippled by a pandemic. How is it that much poorer and smaller countries have such lower numbers than us?
One reason, which is as obvious as the nose on your face, is health care. All those smaller, poorer countries have actual nationwide healthcare systems. Guess who doesn't? The same country that spends more per capita on healthcare with worse results than any other country.
How many people lost health coverage in Europe due to the coronavirus? None. How many lost healthcare in the United States due to coronavirus? Millions, literally millions.
So, among many other issues, there's no single system in our country that can even track testing on a nationwide basis. No centralized system to coordinate testing. No centralized system to advise treatment.
A country that is focused on the real well being of it's citizens will focus on health care systems that work. A country that isn't focuses on systems built to create wealth, not health. That's the one we've got.
Why? Because our national death cult says healthcare is a privilige, not a right. They say carrying a weapon is what rights are all about and privilige is when some cracker doesn't shoot you while out for a jog.
Our national death cult tells you the economy is more important than your health. The leaders who normallly make more money in a day than you will in your lifetime are now telling you to get back to work, because it's taking them a week to make more than you'll make in a lifetime.
Nurses, grocery store cashiers, meat-packing workers, underground coal miners...your life isn't worth stock values. And those people protesting for their masters at each state capital? Fodder to keep the cult in power.
But at least they'll be recognized by the kool-aid stains around their blue lips.
