Turtles All the Way Down

It's good to know, in this time of uncertainty and fear, that there is one thing left in this country that we can all depend on.  Better still its light shines brightest on our state.

I'm speaking, of course, of the hypocrisy of Senator McConnell.

Yertle the Grate reminded us again that no one rules the swamp like a lizard with a shell and no conscience. While his fellow party statesmen looked awry at the odor that is Trump, Yertle simply hid deeper in the muck. Once that smell overtook the swamp, Yertle popped his head up from the ooze and filled his nostrils.

If nothing else, our senator knows which way the wind blows and while most were battoning the hatches he was setting his sails.  Not only did he retain his spot as Senate Majority Leader, aka,  the most efficiently destructive U.S. Senator in our history, his wife gets a cabinet position ripe with rewards.

So today the guy who refused to fulfill his constitutional duty when Obama nominated a Supreme Court justice is hammering the other side for dragging their feet on annointing the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.

That's a silent movie reference. Look it up.

The guy who insisted Obama's cabinet appointments all have conflict of interest issues cleared before hearings began decided, only 8 years later, that all that stuff isn't really necessary.

Not that Mrs. McConnell, daughter of a Chinese shipping magnate, would have any conflicts of interest in her new capacity as Transportation Secretary.  What could shipping have to do with transportation?

Nothing of course.  At least that's what Yertle says.  And he also says the "loyal opposition" should just cooperate, like he always did with still president whether you like it or not Obama.

There are some who probably wonder why Mitch is focusing so much on cabinet appointments and not specific fixes for some of our problems.

Like healthcare for example. He's been talking about repealing Obamacare for so long, you'd think he's got to be ready with a HUUUGE replacement.

But here's one place not tied to Russia where things are going to get interesting.  You might not have realized this, but Obamacare is the best thing the Republicans can come up with.

It was the best they could come up with when the Heritage Foundation dreamed it up in the 90s. It was also the best they could come up with when it was called Romneycare in Massachusetts in the 2006.
It was also the best they could come up with when they convinced gullible and paid for Democrats that single payer wasn't the answer in 2009.

Republicans can't come up with anything better than the ACA. It's their plan and they really like it.  Except when Democrats steal it.

And this, my friends, is what makes our dear senator the hypocrite of all hypocrites.  He sold the plan to Harry and Nancy and Barack, packed it with poison pills and then convinced the country the death panels were coming.

Senator Mitch McConnell has masterfully manipulated Washington from his murky depth for decades.  He's outsmarted the other side's best time and again. If only the other side wasn't Americans.

We should all be proud. Right?
