There's a delicious bit of irony playing out in stadiums across the United States. The icing on the multi-layered cake is it's all being broadcast by Rupert Murdoch.
At press time, the 11 stadiums hosting the FIFA World Cup in the U.S. are 99% full on average. Those stadiums are in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Miami, New Jersey and Boston.
Total attendance is easily on track to beat the previous FIFA World Cup record which was set the last time it was hosted in the United States.
At a time when Republicans and MAGA have made it harder and far more expensive for fans and athlete's families from around the world to come see the matches, it is Americans who are filling the stadiums to witness the world's favorite sport. While the administration and other idiots rail against diversity in our country, the Fox Broadcasting corporation proves with each stadium shot this is the most diverse country on the planet.
That is our history. There is nothing homogenous about it.
It turns out most Americans are celebrating the gathering of the best from around the world in a sport many of us don't even know the rules of. And it turns out the hospitality denied by our government is being supplied by us, American citizens who still prefer the golden rule to the golden calf.
The irony will likely be missed by those who need the lesson. The Secretary of WarPaint, whose single credential is "worked for Rupert Murdoch", is still out there hollering diversity is bad. You don't have to be a racist to believe him, you just have to be gullible.
If you are, you'll probably miss the fact most Americans still believe we're all created equal, we all have certain rights including freedom of thought, of speech and of belief. Most of us believe no one is above the law and no law should be aimed at any race, religion or class of people.
That this is a nation of immigrants and it is far better to treat your guests with humility and compassion, joy and celebration, than it is to shun them, to disrespect them, to terrorize them.
The broadcaster of faux news, misinforming the American citizenry since 1996 is now reaping record broadcast and streaming ratings from households across the United States glued to these multi-cultural celebrations of competitive excellence that are the true nature of the American ideal.
An even playing field with players of different skin tones, different cultures, different belief systems all playing by the same rules in honest competition without external manipulation. A ball and a couple of goals are all you need.
It's almost the polar opposite of the picture they usually manipulate of the country. Certainly not what the DonJohn administration wants you to witness. It must be easy if you've got your eyes closed.
A third of the country just might. Polls show Trump still has about 35% approval ratings. Not all those people are millionaires and racist jackasses. They were Murdoched.
That is some kind of icing.
