Loneliness

it was late i was
sitting in an all night bar-b-que
waiting for another cup of coffee
to help me pass the time
until the waitress took me home

a guy came in  the down side
of a two week binge sat next to me
put his arm on the counter lit a pall mall
looked at me said see here boy
i ain't always been this way
i remember a day
i was waiting for my woman like you
drinking sangria in the sand
making love in the morning when the sun came up

he turned away ran his hand through his hair
said bring me a beer miss
got a lot to forget

i could see the woman he spoke of
dancing in the surf her hair long
auburn down her back and i knew
when he turned back i said
mister i've been there too
