We've managed to make it a few days into January.  So far so good.

I'm happy to declare I've broken no resolutions in the new year and I'm going to keep it that way. I have a method of ensuring no slip ups and no backtracking.  What's the secret you might wonder?

There's no secret. You can't break what you didn't make. I resolved to stop making resolutions years ago and I'm batting a thousand ever since.

I'm not sure resolutions aren't going out of fashion anyway. More and more people are going for the short term dry spell instead of the finality of resolve.  How many people are taking part in Dry January?

I have resolved many times to quit drinking forever but not once without a hangover. It's been a while since I've had one of those, so what would be the point of taking a month off?  If you really think taking a month off will be good for your health you probably drink too much in the first place.

Just go ahead and quit.

The change of year has lifted my spirits. What a difference a day makes. With no resolutions to break, I'm feeling the clock has slowed a minute. All the pressures of last week don't feel as heavy.  I have renewed optimism for the coming year.

What's not to be optimistic about?  The job market is still strong, inflation is coming down. The general economy is roaring along with no recession in sight which is not what people were predicting a year ago.

There are jobs everywhere and pretty much anybody can get one.  Even Daniel Cameron, former candidate for governor, has landed a plum position he may or may not be qualified for which is more than you can say for his last job.

He'll head a non-profit organization that will take on corporations that are advancing the woke agenda.  Since I wasn't invited to the woke agenda conference, I'm not really sure what's up.  What I do know is they've named themselves 1792 which is the year they want the country to revert to.   So maybe he's going to put leeches on Mickey Mouse.

At least he's off the taxpayer's dime. I'm not sure it qualifies as gainfully employed, but you and I aren't paying his salary anymore. That's something to be happy about.

All joking aside, I'd like to congratulate Daniel for joining me in not being named in any of Jeffrey Epstein's court documents made public this week.  One never knows what'll fall out of sealed documents, so we both dodged one Dan.

I know it's early, but this feels like a good year coming our way.  2024 has a good ring to it. It's even and I like even years. It's a leap year, too.  What's not to like?

If I was a resolution making guy, I'd resolve to make this a year too good to forget. But thank goodness I'm not.  That's another resolution I won't break.

Four days in and still breathing.  So far so good.
