Happy Trumpsgiving, how do you like the turkey?

I trust each of you had your fill of food and family yesterday.  In honor of turkey overload, let me wish you a belated Happy Trumpgiving.

Yes, I typed that.

There are many things I am thankful for this holiday season. Way too many things and people for me to list here, so don't worry.

I tend to spread my thankfulness throughout the year to ease the burden. It makes for a lot less pressure delivering grace in front of the stuffing and cranberry sauce. Iit's bad form to be praying to a chorus of growling stomachs.

But this year was a bit different for me.  This year was even more special, as if the day had been topped somehow.  Like all the great turkey days of my past were exceeded. Like their awesomeness was trumped.

This year I"m more thankful than ever to be living in the greatest country on the planet. A country where people from all over the world can come and live in peace, no matter what their religion or race might be. A country made up of generations of immigrants, refugees of tyrrany and oppression, escapers of poverty and persecution.

A country where freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of thought is the rule. A country with a government of, by and for the people. A country where the poorest child can grow up to be the president.

Or the richest child can grow up to be the opposite of all that. Which brings me back to Trumpsgiving.

I am so thankful for the Donald.  He is a shining beacon of all this country isn't.  Born with a silver spoon in his mouth, delusional enough to think he self-made, and quite possibly the biggest jerk to every run for high office.  He is the opposite of a believer, the opposite of a self-made American, and the opposite of what a leader actually is.

He is proof of PT Barnum's adage that there is a sucker born every minute. And an even greater carnival barker. Just ask him!

"Step right up, boy, and win a prize:  you're fired! I can get my ties made cheaper in China!

We should all be thankful he's doing it in a fit of theater that portrays the GOP for exactly what it is today, a party that hates America and it's people.  The baby boomers might be slow to figure it out, but the millenials are well ahead of that game.

The Trump that keeps on giving has suggested all Mexicans be sent back to Mexico, suggested all Muslims wear a badge, and that he watched thousands of New Jerseyans cheer the fall of the Twin Towers. Donald likes thugs who beat up people who don't agree with him.  Not only did he say it, he said it with backing b-roll to prove his point.

This was just in the last week from the current leading Republican presidential candidate.  It's the kind of crazy made just for television and Trump is what television is all about: the opposite of reality.  No wonder Fox News and Entertainment Tonight can't get enough of him.

So in the spirit of the season, Happy Trumpsgiving.  The only thing I could be more thankful for is next year when it's past us.
